The Longleaf Library Media Center welcomes you as you are. It is a safe space where all students can feel welcome throughout the school day. All students will find books which reflect themselves, will open their minds to other worlds and lives, and will be launchpads towards understanding and, perhaps, empathy.
Students will have agency to choose their reading materials according to their tastes. "Recreational reading" promotes higher reading skills. and is the stepping stone to becoming lifelong readers. Besides maintaining an open library, we will help students and teachers find reliable resources for their information needs. We teach research skills, how to recognize what is reliable information as opposed to that which is biased, and how to preserve intellectual freedom. We will show students how to access information for class assignments and projects without wading through sponsored, paid-for, advertising. We will provide high quality, professionally-reviewed reading materials that are age-appropriate and tailored to our students and our community.
